How to Do Customer Research with MorningAI Agents

Use Customer Insights mode to interview your CustomerDNA personas directly — test ads, concepts, and messaging with the persona as the speaker — or @-mention a persona to write for them as the audience.

Customer Insights mode lets you interview your customers before you spend a dollar. Pick one of your CustomerDNA personas and the agent answers as that customer — reacting to your ad, your tagline, your product idea the way that segment would. Research that normally takes weeks of recruiting and scheduling happens in a conversation.

Two Ways to Use Personas — Speaker vs Audience

MorningAI gives you two distinct ways to bring a persona into a conversation, and knowing the difference is the key to using both well:

  • Customer Insights mode — the persona is the speaker. The agent answers as that customer. Use it to test concepts, probe objections, and hear how your messaging lands. This is research.
  • @-mentioning a persona — the persona is the audience. In a normal conversation, type @ and pick a persona to attach them as the target for a task: "Write an email for @Budget-Conscious Beginners." The agent writes for that segment. This is production.

A good workflow uses both: interview the persona in Customer Insights until the message clicks, then switch to a regular conversation and @-mention the same persona to produce the asset.

How to Run a Research Session

  1. Open a new conversation and switch to the Customer Insights tab on the welcome screen.
  2. Pick the persona you want to hear from. These come from your CustomerDNA — each carries its segment's demographics, behaviors, motivations, and objections.
  3. Attach what you're testing — an ad image, a landing page PDF, a concept description — and ask your question.
  4. Follow up like an interviewer: "What would make you hesitate?" "Which of these two versions feels more like it's for you?" "What would you need to see to pay full price?"

What to Test

  • Ad creative — upload the asset and ask "Does this stop your scroll? Why or why not?"
  • Messaging and taglines — "Which of these three headlines speaks to you, and what does each make you assume about the product?"
  • Concepts and offers — describe a product idea, bundle, or promotion before you build it and probe for objections.
  • Pricing and positioning — "At what price would this feel expensive but worth it?"

Creating a New Persona from Chat

You don't have to leave the conversation to expand your persona set. Ask the agent to create one — "Create a persona for the gift-buyer segment we keep seeing in December orders" — and it drafts the persona for your CustomerDNA, where you can review and refine it. New personas then show up both in Customer Insights and in the @ mention picker.

Keep It Honest

Persona interviews are grounded in your CustomerDNA — they're as good as the segments you've defined. They're a fast first read that helps you kill weak ideas early and sharpen strong ones before spending on production or media. Treat surprising findings as hypotheses to verify with real customers, not verdicts.
